Mini Gallery’s Exhibition: Art on the Cusp Explo Mini Gallery’s Exhibition: Art on the Cusp
Explore the shifting connections between natural landscapes and human transitions in Art on the Cusp, featuring works by members of Artpoint Gallery & Studios Society.

In Mini Gallery No. 3, discover Dot - Acorn by Terra McDonald, created with water-based media and acrylic on canvas, 2024.

"We went to winter, returning for summer, spring and fall seeing so
many beautiful things and in turn inspiring the creation of Dot -
Drawings of things. Painting and drawing in response to the landscape.
Influenced by an autumn walk, finding acorns on and below the Bur Oak
trees in Rotary park."

Inspired by seasonal walks through Rotary Park, Dot - Acorn captures the beauty of nature and the discoveries it holds. Take a stroll through Rotary Park to experience this exhibition in person and find your own inspiration.

This exhibition is made possible thanks to the support of CADA and the City of Calgary.

Photography, digital collage, and illustration, 2024.

“I wonder where memories go between
birthdays and funerals,
all the missing minutes between
the dreaming and the waking.
Whispered taunts and forgotten faces
tease me,
until those pregnant seconds between
breathing and drowning
release me.”

Reva Diana’s work captures the surreal spaces where memories, dreams, and reality intertwine. Through digital collage and poetic visuals, “Interzone” explores the powerful seconds in between. Don’t miss this striking piece!

“Art on the Cusp” dives into the connection between transformations in natural landscapes and our personal journeys.

In Mini Gallery No. 6:
Dianne J. Leong: Winter Season in the Cycle of Life. Oil on canvas, 11 x 15”, 2024.

Winter brings rest and introspection. Dianne’s twilight scene honors our elders, celebrating the wisdom they impart in their “winter season.”

“My 96-year-old mother embodies ‘It takes a village to raise a child.’ After losing her mother at age 3, she grew up in a close-knit community in Sarnia, Ontario. Though only two Chinese families lived there for decades, a few women and couples took in her and her sisters, passing down life skills, faith, and resilience. Amazingly, each sister went on to marry a Chinese American WWII veteran. Their story is a testament to resilience and the bonds that transcend borders.”

Thank you, Dianne, for sharing your moving story with us. 💫

Our gratitude also goes to @calgaryartsdev and the City of Calgary for their support, which helps bring these exhibition to life, enriches our community, and connects us with inspiring local artists! 🖼️✨

🌲 Last Day to See Forests in Flux! 🌲 In the 🌲 Last Day to See Forests in Flux! 🌲

In the past few weeks, we’ve been truly excited to host the Forests in Flux exhibition, where art meets science through the amazing works of Yekta Tarki, Tanya Yeomans, and Julya Hajnoczky. This exhibition blends creativity and insight to explore how climate change and human activity are impacting the boreal forest. A huge thank you to these three incredible artists for sharing their work and knowledge with us—you’ve made this exhibition truly special!

And now, with just a day left, don’t miss your chance to visit!
In Mini Gallery No. 2, discover Pit-fired clay tablets cast from tree bark (2023) by Julya Hajnocky, highlighting the intricate patterns left by Mountain Pine beetles on dead trees. This piece reflects the disrupted natural cycles caused by climate change, logging, and fire suppression, serving as a way to mark and grieve the unprecedented loss of our forests.

Don’t miss these final powerful reflections on nature and human impact!

We’re incredibly grateful to CADA and The City of Calgary for supporting Crescent Heights Mini-Galleries in 2024. Your contribution helps bring local art to our neighborhood!

🌲 Forests in Flux | Sep. 5th - Oct. 31st | Mini 🌲 Forests in Flux | Sep. 5th - Oct. 31st | Mini Galleries 🌲

Featuring three artists who explore boreal themes through diverse mediums—photography, sculpture, painting, and fiber art—this exhibition sparks dialogue on climate change and human impact.

In Mini Gallery No. 6: Tanya Yeomans presents her piece made with foraged boreal dye material and found iron for mordanting (2024). This artwork captures the monoculture of planted grass on reclamation sites in Alberta’s boreal forest, highlighting how industrial disturbances often lead to grass overwhelming other vegetation and preventing natural forest regeneration. The eco-printing process, seen in the video accompanying the piece, showcases the contrast between the stark grass and the rich biodiversity of the surrounding forest matrix.

Come visit before the end of October and experience the art in person!

A huge thank you to CADA and The City of Calgary for helping make our 2024 exhibitions at Crescent Heights Mini-Galleries possible. Your support fuels creativity in our community!
